Ampersand Records, ein in der USA beheimateter Record Label, hat sich auf die Fahne geschrieben Country und Bluegrass Legenden und zukünftige Stars zu veröffentlichen. Mit Bobby Thompson – Thompson Picks, Steve Lutke – Appalachian Uprising, Mike Coffey – Big Apple Country und Bob Harris – Relentless probieren sie jetzt den deutschen und europäischen Markt zu erreichen. Gemeinsam haben alle vier Künstler die Liebe zur Country und Bluegrass Musik. Doch könnte es nicht unterschiedlicher sein. Bobby Thompson, der einer der besten Five-String Banjo Spieler ist, dazu noch meisterlich auf der Rhythm Gitarre und die Five-String Dobro beherrscht, bringt es auf mehr als 25 Jahre Musikerfahrung als Studio-Musiker. Sein Album, welches er seiner Frau Judy widmet, beinhaltet nur eine kleine Auswahl an großartigen Songs, die er in seiner aktiven Zeit aufgenommen, geschrieben oder gespielt hat. Von Country über Blues bis Bluegrass findet sich hier alles.

Das große Gegenteil zu Bobby Thompson ist Steve Lutke. Er, dessen Mutter Sängerin bei den Dinning Sisters war, welche bei Capitol Records unter Vertrag waren, holte sich die Inspirationen zu dem Album „Appalachian Uprising" von Klavier Spieler George Winston und seinem Bruder Kevin Lutke, welcher Jazz Gitarist ist. Es handelt sich um ein reines Bluegrass Album auf Instrumentalbasis. Sehr gewagt ist es nur auf die reine Qualität der Musiker und der seinigen zu vertrauen, denn der Markt für Bluegrass Alben ist zwar vorhanden, doch zumindest bei europäischen Radiostationen nicht unbedingt so gefragt. Für das Album sollte schon eine sehr große Liebe für Hardcore Bluegrass vorhanden sein.

Mike Coffey mit dem Album „Big Apple Country" ist von den vier Künstlern derjenige der mehr auf traditionelle und rockige Country Music steht. Sein Album beinhaltet zwar gerade einmal neun Songs, doch sind diese nicht von schlechten Eltern. Von den neun Songs hat er acht geschrieben oder mitgeschrieben. Nur bei „Heart Times" hat er nicht mitgewirkt. Das Album ist recht abwechslungsreich. Tempo-Songs wechseln sich mit Balladen ab. Liebe, Erfahrung und das Leben spielen eine große Rolle in den Songs.

Ja und da wäre wir auch schon bei Bob Harris. Über Bob Harris sagt Vassar Clements: Bob ist der beste Rhythm und Lead Gitarist mit dem er jemals zusammen gespielt habe. Und Vassar Clements hat Recht. Bob Harris kann mit Stolz sagen, dass er der Gewinner des 1992 Guitar Player International „Ultimate Guitar Competition" for Cajun Stomp ist. Bei den Songs ist es wie schon bei dem Album von Bobby Thompson. Ein Instrumental-Album, welches im Gegensatz zu dem vom Bobby Thompson wesentlich ausgereifter klingt. Verschiedene Stilarten finden sich auf „Relentless!" wieder. Der Cajun, Bluegrass und Country Fan wird hier angesprochen. Ein Song von Earl Scruggs „Pick Along" findet sich auf dem Album genau so wieder, wie eigene Stücke von Bob Harris „The Root Cellar", „Guitar Appetizer" oder „Ampersand". Als Hintergrund Musik eignet sich das Album ausgezeichnet.

Ampersand Records, a Record Label that is at home in the US, have made it their goal to publish Country and Bluegrass Legends and future Stars. With Bobby Thompson – Thompson Picks, Steve Lutke – Appalachian Uprising, Mike Coffey – Big Apple Country and Bob Harris – Relentless they try to reach the german and european market. The 4 Artists have something in common, their love to Country and Bluegrass Music. But they coudn’t be any more different. Bobby Thompson, one of the best Five-String Banjo players, and also is a champion with the Rhythm Guitarre and knows the Five-String Dobro, can look back to more then 25 years of knowledge as a studio musician. His Album, wich is dedicated to his wife Judy, contains only a small varriety of Songs, that he recorded, wrote or played in his active time. From Country over Blus to Bluegrass, everything can be found here.

The big opposite to Bobby Thompson is Steve Lutke. Steve, wich was born by a mother that was a Singer with the Dinning Sisters, who are contracted by Capitol Records got his inspiration to his Album „Appalachian Uprising" from the Piano Player George Winston and his brother Kevin Lutke, who is now a Jazz Guitarist. It is a pure Bluegrass instrumental Album. Very risky, there is a market for Bluegrass, but to count only on your ability as a musician is dangerous, it is not very asked for, at least in european radio stations. For the Album you must have a great love for Hardcore Bluegrass.

Mike Coffey with the Album „Big Apple Country" is the one of the 4 Artists that has the more traditional rocky Country Music. His Album only contains 9 Songs, but those are really good. From the 9 Songs he has written or co-written 8, only in „Heart Times" he didn’t do any work at all. The Album is a pretty good varriety of Ballads and tempo-Songs. Love, Experience and Life itself play the roles in his Songs.

And last but not least, we are with Bob Harris. Vassar Clements says about Bob Harris: Bob is the best rhythm and lead Guitarrist that I have ever played with. And Vassar Clements is right. Bob Harris can say with pride that he is the winner of the 1992 Guitar Player International „Ultimate Guitar Competition" for Cajun Stomp. In the Songs it is like it was allready in the Album from Bobby Thompson. A Instrumental-Album, wich sounds, in difference to Bobby Thompson much more matured. Different Styles are to find on „Relentless!". The Fan of Cajun, Blugrass and Country will be thrilled. A Song from Earl Scruggs „Pick Along" is to find on the Album, along with own pieces from Bob Harris „The Root Cellar", „Guitar Appetizer" or „Ampersand". The Album makes really good Background Music.
