Interview with Rebecca Lindsey, 2005

Q. "Rebecca, what sparked your passion for music and why?"

A. "I have always been an extrovert; very bubbly, out going and creative. It is my passion. I loved writing poetry as a child. I have always had a lot to say. My love for poetry carried over into song writing and singing. Singing is a way to express everything from happiness, sadness, joy to independence. There is no more powerful way to reach someone and touch someone's soul as there is in music. Music is a miracle."

Q. "Who were your major musical inspirations?"

A. "Growing up it was my family; My Mother would always make up songs for me and my sister when we were kids. My Dad would always sing and play guitar and the organ, which he got from his Italian parents that were musical. My sister writes poetry and has a passion for books and singing. Music has always been a part of my life - it is familiar, warm, comforting - it is home."

Q. "How old were you when you first started writing and singing, and please tell us some stories behind the songs."

A. "I was 10 years old the first time I sang on stage with a Choir. It felt natural - like being on stage, performing and singing was what I was supposed to be doing. It was one of those unexplainable "it just feels right" feelings. I then started writing poetry and turning them into songs when I was 14. Of course, having structure for the songs was lacking since I had no direction, but it sparked an interest enough in me to have me still writing."

Q. "Please tell fans about your current demo and the story behind it?"

A. "I went up to Nashville to record my three song demo at EMI/Capital Records back in September - that was a long time in the making. I had spent about four years to get to that point in my life where I had the right connections, people who financially and emotionally were supportive (and are still supportive) to help me get up there. It took a lot of effort, hard work, and most of all, money. Making music is an investment of time, money and your soul. That is why it is SO important to put everything you've got into it. But it must be your passion for you to be driven and not give up, or it will not work."

Q. "I understand you’ve had lots of help on your musical journey, could you tell us about that?"

A. "I have had everything from friends who guided me and supported me/believed in me (which was half the battle) to people who really did not have a lot of money, offering everything from $500-$1000 each just to help me get the demo done. That is not including all the hours upon hours of placing my stats, bio, making the bio, photo shoots, cropping, editing, the recording session(s), time and getting on websites and then being found on search engines/work, etc. that went into it. Singing, like anything in life, takes hard work. But, nothing good comes without it."

Close: "Thank you Rebecca for this interview, we wish you well and lots of success on your up coming demo!
